BAMIYAN, Afghanistan — A young man was killed in central Afghanistan’s Bamiyan province while successfully intervening to protect his sister from an attempted abduction, local security officials confirmed on Saturday. The incident took place in the Sarternok village of Yakawlang district, where an armed assailant identified as “Ali” attempted to forcibly abduct a young local woman from her home. The woman’s brother intervened to defend her and was fatally shot during the ensuing struggle. Following complaints from the victim’s family and local residents, Taliban security forces launched a pursuit of the suspect, who was subsequently shot and killed during an armed standoff. The fatal confrontation comes amid a noticeable uptick in localized violence and targeted killings across several provinces, challenging official claims of nationwide stability.
