KABUL — Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, the Taliban’s Minister for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, has strongly rejected international criticism of the regime’s domestic policies, stating that the global community has no right to interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.

Speaking at an official gathering with the ministry’s ombudsmen (muhtasibs), Hanafi defended the enforcement of the group’s rigid social restrictions. He emphasized that the “spiritual reform” of Afghan society remains a primary, joint responsibility of both the ministry and its field enforcement officers.

The statement comes amid ongoing international condemnation from the United Nations and human rights organizations over the ministry’s sweeping decrees restricting the basic freedoms, employment, and education of women and girls across the country.
